In accordance with the guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the government of Maharashtra in Technical and Higher Education and Employment Department had appointed the University of Pune (UoP) the state agency to conduct the examination back in 1994.

ML Jadhav, Registrar, UoP, said the university was all set with the exam including the online registration that started from May 26.

This is UoP's 25th examination and officials are in great spirits to announce the silver jubilee examination.

"There are certain changes in paper III for the betterment of the applicants. Earlier, there were 40-mark questions where students wrote up to 1000 word," said S S Aatre, Dy Registrar, SET department. "But from this year, the questions will be of 20 marks with 500-word answers. It will become much easier for the students to score marks in this paper."

Last year, around 35,000 applications were submitted and 28,000 took the exams, but only 519 students cleared it. Looking at the number of applications pouring in since May 26, UoP authorities are expecting around 40,000 applications this year.

Aatre admits that with online registration the workload is relatively less. The applications will be available online till June 19, after which the hard copy has to reach the university by June 24. The admit card will be available online 10 days before the examination.
