Musicians from the northeast are ganging up with friends around the country. They are planning to win over Delhi with their music

A conspiracy is being hatched. The plotters include a singing monk, a Grammy winner, an electronic rock band and a bunch of young folk singers among others. Tonight, a gang of gifted musicians is gathering to rock the city with The Handshake Concert 2010.

With a little help from the friendsu00a0
Started in 2008, The Handshake Concert coinciding with World Music Day celebrations comes today to Delhi after it's successful performances in Mumbai last year. The musical event organized by Rattle and Hum Society of Nagaland, has been striving since 2004 to provide a platform for northeastern artists as well spread message of brotherhood around the country and abroad. "We charge nothing so it's totally a no profit event when it comes to monetary earnings," says Theja Maru, the president of the society, "but we want to shake hands and earn friends so that people here can understand the northeast better," he adds.

A melodic storm
To start with there is Grammy award winner Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. The charmer who Indianised the Hawaiian guitar and created the Mohan Veena shares stage with another Grammy nominee, multi-phonic chanter Lama Tashi, the former chant master of the Dalai Lama, popularly known as the Singing Monk. Then the expect fireworks from the Soulmate, the blues band which vowed music lovers for the first time in 2003. Rudy Wallang, the Great Society and Mojo Veteran is a good reason enough, add Tipriti Kharbangar and it's like a Sicilian offer you simply can't refuse. And if you pass through them, Medusa, the hypnotic electronic rock band will seduce you to stone. And the list is long; there are the Tetseo sisters whose ethereal folk melodies lure you to realms of life, love, birth, death, victory and beauty. The Cultural Vibrants is another group of sisters who sing traditional Naga songs of harvest, war and loneliness and more. Other performers include soprano singer Asin, Nise and OFF, winner of the Hornbill National Rock Contest 2009.
Extend a hand of friendship and make some new pals. Don't give it a miss.u00a0u00a0
