Traffic department makes this request to BEST to avoid congestion

In a move to ease traffic in the city, the Mumbai Traffic Police has written a letter to Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) to shift nearly 15 bus stops near traffic signals.

A senior official from the traffic department said, "There are many bus stops close to signals that cause traffic jams. If BEST agrees with our suggestion, it will be of great help to motorists."u00a0

Commuters agree with the authorities. Sagar Bhoir, who regularly commutes between Andheri and Worli said, "The signals are the biggest problems faced by motorists."u00a0

Uttam Khobragade, general manager, BEST, said, "We are examining the locations and will send a reply to the traffic department once our ground work is completed. We have no issues shifting bus stops if it will be convenient to the public."u00a0

Too close
The BEST has over 4,000 bus stops spread across the city. The traffic police have pointed out that about 15 bus stops are near signals. These include the ones at Elphinstone bridge,u00a0 Antop Hill and Wadala bridge.
