The Sahakar Nagar police filed a cheating case against the employees and computer operators working for a private company and its owner. The PMC had given a contract to the company for collecting taxes paid by the citizens through an online software system. The company had allegedly collected the amount and did not forward it to the PMC.

The owner of the private company 'Vidya Online' located at the Electronic Estate on Pune-Satara road has been charged under sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code besides his other employees including the computer operators.

Systems manager officer at PMC Rahul Prataprao Jagtap (26), a resident of Saswad, lodged the complaint in this regard at the Sahakar Nagar police station.

Investigating officer Police Sub-Inspector A D Paigude said, "Vidya Online was under contract since April 2005. The company was expected to collect various tax amounts paid by citizens through online payment system and hand it over to the PMC."

Fraud uncovered
"Tax collection of fourteen wards and ten other offices of PMC was given to Vidya Online Company. However in August, officials at the Dhankawadi ward office observed that the amount collected by the company was not forwarded to PMC. They conducted an inquiry and found that same was the case across other ward offices as well," said PSI Paigude.

"PMC officials had then asked for an explanation from the company but they failed to give satisfactory answers. It was then that they decided to lodge an FIR against Vidya Online," said PSI Paigude.
