Housewife arrested for making hoax calls to police helpline to warn them of bombs planted by her husband under Madiwala market bridge

B S Sumana alias Priya (22) believed, like many women, her husband deserved to be beaten up by the police. However, unlike others who resign themselves to their fate, Priya decided to get her husband framed by lying to the police that he was a terrorist.

On July 6, the Madiwala housewife allegedly called police control room eight times and tipped the cops on duty about her husband Sujith Kumar, who she said, had planted bombs under the Madiwala bridge.

Following her arrest and subsequent interrogation, Priya revealed that Sujith, her husband of six years, had tricked her into marriage and had concealed the fact that he had a wife in Assam.

Priya had reportedly hoped that the police will resort to third-degree methods to extract information from him. Her only slip up occurred when she naively gave her address when the police asked for it.

"Priya hatched the plan carefully. She used a landline near her house at Prakash Nagar in Rajajinagar to inform the police that a person named Sujith had planted bombs under Madiwala Market bridge," explained Inspector M L Purushotham of the Madiwala police station.

The information was passed on to the Madiwala police who swung into action and after a thorough search decided that the call was a hoax.

Priya had naively shared a relative's address with the police control room, which helped the police reach her.
Priya was in tears yesterday when she was produced before the city court.

She refused to talk. "Priya was angry with Sujith who cheated her and decided to teach him a lesson by getting the police involved," said Purushotham. Priya has been remanded to judicial custody.
