Spain is where the heart is

Fantastic monuments, lovely scenery, warm hospitality and lots of Tapas. Actor Shahana Goswami, who is currently backpacking across Spain, shares her travel diary with CS:

Spain calling
I had always wanted to go to Spain, as it just felt like it was calling out to me. Maybe the easy way of life, the love for food and the festive nature of the people made me feel like I would love it too! I haven't really travelled around Europe before and so when my friend Arunima mentioned that she wanted to go to Spain, I couldn't resist. We made this plan a year ago and worked it around for this time of the year. We have been travelling since April 27, and I will be back on June 3. It is a five week break with four weeks in Spain, and one in Portugal. Arunima and I are very close and make perfect travel partners.

Exploring fun
We are on a backpacking trip, so everything is budgeted. Not because we can't afford it, but because it's more fun that way and obviously also works out be to much cheaper. We started in Barcelona, and have been around to Empuriabrava (where I went sky diving for the second time), Huesca, Pamplona, San Sebastian, Oviedo, Bilbao, Ferrol, Madrid, Ibiza, Formentera Islands, Seville, Cordoba Andare and are now in Granada. We spent a couple of days at every place discovering it. From the party capital of Ibiza to the annual Fiesta in Cordoba, we've packed in a lot in very little time and money!

Touching base
Yes, we have been having a lot of Tapas. Unfortunately, we haven't got good paella yet, but are search isn't yet over. We had a lovely home cooked meal at one of our host's house in Madrid Carmen and Juanma. They cooked a variety of delicious Tapas from the Basque region and Andalucia. But what I find most endearing are the people here. They are very warm, full of life, happy and welcoming. I can imagine myself living in this country that's how comfortable I feel here. And the language barrier hardly comes in the way if you're open to wanting to understand them.
