Supreme Court: Allow one more chance to deposit old notes

The Supreme Court has asked the Centre and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) whether a window can be provided to people who couldn't deposit their old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes before December 31 last year.

The notes were demonetisied on November 8. Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a late night televised programme, on November 6 last year, had announced the demonetisation scheme, to deal with blackmoney horders and choke terror financing.

The apex court has now given two weeks to respond. The next hearing will be heard on July 18.
