But all did not have it easy especially in the Ghaziabad constituency. I got complaints from one of my colleagues that he had the voter identification card but his name was missing from the voters' list.

To his shock he found that names of his several friends and neighbours were also missing from the list.

Later, investigations by MiD DAY revealed that thousands of voters whose names were registered in this constituency were "omitted" from the list.

Interestingly, most of the "missing" voters were from the upper caste on which BJP candidate Rajnath Singh was banking on.

"This is pure cheating. Several campaigns to bring out the voters to cast their vote will remain futile until the system is synchronised," said Namrata, a resident of Vaishali.

Thousands of voters in Vaishali, Indirapuram and Vasundhara area returned without casting their votes. "From the next time onwards many of them will never turn up to cast their votes.

It was a bad experience. I had thought that I will flaunt my inked finger to my colleagues the next day but it couldn't happen," said Ajit, a resident of Shipra Sun City.

Interestingly, a couple of enthusiastic voters came to the booth with their laptops and data cards to help find names of voters.

"I am trying to search the names of persons in the list through the Internet. If I succeed to find even a single name in the list, I would be happy.

At least I could justify my holiday," said a young professional, requesting anonymity.

Presiding officers and magistrates were flooded with complaints and were seen avoiding the media, as they had no answers.
