Now, the latest to join the line of the many hoaxes regarding to WhatsApp and Facebook is that users, would have to pay nominal charges to use both services. According to recent reports, there is a message circulating on social media, which goes as follows, "From Saturday morning Facebook will become chargeable. If you have at least 10 contacts send them this message. In this way we will see that you are an avid user and your logo will become blue and will remain free. As discussed in the paper today. Facebook will cost 0.01ps per message. Send this message to 10 people. When you do the light will turn blue otherwise Facebook will activate billing."

The above mentioned message, would be generally sent to both iOS and Android users. The odd thing about it is that when it comes to the Facebook logo turning blue, regular users of Facebook would know that the logo is already blue! What many may or may not know is that WhatsApp used to be a paid app at one time. Apple iOS users were required to pay USD 1 for downloading the app and for Android users, the payment would begin exactly one year after usage.

The good news is, that both WhatsApp and Facebook will remain free services and won't be charging their users. Over the course of time, there have been some other scams that have caused inconvienience to users. Here's a list of some recent ones...

WhatsApp message steals bank account details when opened: Cyber criminals and hackers have found a new way to hack into bank accounts. The virus is distributed in the form of Microsoft Excel or PDF files and when downloaded and opened can immediately gain access to your bank account details or even your PIN numbers.

The virus is sent with the names NIA (National Investigation Agency) or NDA (National Defence Academy), probably to compel WhatsApp users to open it.

Video calling invitation in WhatsApp: Before launching any feature on the application, WhatsApp developers roll out the feature on its beta platform for testing. After the feature is tested, WhatsApp team releases the same to worldwide public.

Unfortunately, there are some scamsters who take advantage of the feature called ‘feature by invite’. With the help of this, they generate a false invitation and lure users, or rather victims to enable those beta features in advance.

Voucher deals: This scam must have got circulated in everybody’s phone by now. This comes in the form of a WhatsApp message from one victim’s contact and gradually gets circulated all over. Such messages have tiny URL’s inside which redirect the users to unknown websites. These unfamiliar websites can assist hackers to access the user’s phone and information. Its better not to click on such links.

WhatsApp Gold / WhatsApp Plus: None of these are official apps from WhatsApp. These are third-party tweaked apps can pose a security threat on the users’ phones. These fake applications also enable the third party developers to get access to personal information. Any invitation related to installation of WhatsApp Gold / WhatsApp Plus should be ignored at the foremost instance.
