A drunken man allegedly tried to rape a 15-year-old girl after barging into her house when she was alone at home.

The incident happened in Sarojini Nagar area of south Delhi on Monday morning. The accused was caught and handed over to the police after the girl raised alarm. However, the police have lodged an FIR of molestation and house trespass.

"The accused, Basant Thapa, has been arrested for molesting the victim, Neha (name changed on request). He barged into her house at around 11:30 am when she was alone and molested her. Hearing Neha's scream, her mother who was in the neighbourhood rushed to her rescue. Thapa was caught by the neighbours and the police were informed. We have lodged an FIR against him," said a senior police officer.

The victim came to Delhi a month ago to get admission in class X. She is reportedly pursuing a computer course from a private institute.

The police have denied there was a rape attempt and said the accused had only molested her.
"We have registered FIR according to her statement," added the police officer.

GANGRAPE ACCUSED HELD
The Shahbad Dairy police arrested two persons involved in a gangrape immediately after the incident took place late on Thursday night. The arrested persons have been identified as Ashok Kumar (40) and Sandeep (23), both residents of Pooth Khurd in outer Delhi. According to the police, the victim arrived in the city from UP to meet her husband who works as a labourer in the capital in the Pul Prahladpur region of outer Delhi.
