Shalaka Kulkarni of Sulochana Devi Singhania School, Thane, and Madhavi Singh from Carmel School, Dhanbad, scored 98.80% marks (best of 5) and topped the Class X examination. Kulkarni said, “Time management is essential. I was committed to my studies and followed a strict timetable from June 2011. My goal was to score 98 per cent.” She added, “A week before the exams, I lost my grandfather but my mother helped me overcome that emotional turmoil. I expected to top my school, but topping in India is a wonderful surprise. I want to pursue engineering from IIT once I complete my ISC from Sulochana Devi Singhania School.” This year, 1,32,282 students appeared in the Class X exam, while 59,356 candidates appeared in Class XII exam.
