The students of People’s Education English High School, Thane, gathered yesterday to symbolise the red ribbon to create awareness on the eve of World Aids Day. The school observes the day every year and students are told about the disease.
The day is dedicated to raising awareness of AIDS caused by the spread of HIV infection, and mourning those who have died of the disease.
The first observance of World AIDS Day was December 1, 1988. As of 2013, AIDS has killed more than 36 million people worldwide (1981-2012).
