Another resto cafe adds itself to the growing breed of such places in Indiranagar

The most appealing section of Woodstok, a new resto cafe in Indiranagar can be seen right from outside the restaurant.u00a0

The cafe has a charming, quaint overhanging balcony which is a bit of a rarity in most Bangalore cafes.

The view from balcony might not be spectacular, but under a tiled roof (another rarity) and fairy lights, this is the perfect section for a date.

The rest of the cafe is pretty much like a narrow apartment with a downstairs section, a bar on the first floor followed by an inside air conditioned section and the balcony.

On the day we visited, we were lucky to get a place in the said balcony. But hardly were we into admiring our seats when the attack of the mosquitoes and other bugs happened.

The bright lights proved to be the culprits. But the ever helpful staff immediately arranged for some mosquito coils and dimmed the lights.

Now that we were settled, we poured over the extensive menu instead.

Woodstok offers starters, soups, salads, grills, barbecues, sandwiches, burgers, milkshakes, coffee, deserts and has recently added an alcohol menu to their selection. The menu is extensive and one is spoiled for choice.

We decided to go for the non-vegetarian platter (Rs 295) a mix of all the non-vegetarian starters on the menu.

The platter contained chicken wings, chicken and prawns breaded and fried and chicken wrapped in bacon and ham served with three kinds of mayo: garlic, mustard and sweet.

The bacon wrapped chicken was an interesting starter with the smoky flavours of crisply fried bacon infused into the fried ham and chicken.

The breaded chicken and prawns tasted almost identical with the same crumbed batter being used for both. In fact, the batter sort of drowned the taste of the chicken and prawn inside.

For mains, our choice was the Chicken Pot Pie (Rs 295), a vegetable au gratin meets chunks of chicken covered with melted cheddar cheese in a pie crust and the Pasta Sienna (Rs 220) a tomato-based pasta (we chose fusilli) with olives, sun-dried tomatoes, bell peppers, mushrooms and cheese.

What we liked most was the generous jar filled with parmesan shavings that was part of the condiments on the table. Needless to say we liberally sprinkled our dishes with it.

The chicken pot was creamy, cheesy but the pie crust was a bit synthetic to taste as if it had been made with an instant mix. The pasta was not overloaded with heavy tomato sauce but was light, fresh and quite delicious.

Overall, the food selection at Woodstok is interesting but it reminded us too much of diner-style food available at popular American chains in the city.

When we asked for bruschettas as starters, the staff warned us not have it because it wasn't good (we wonder why?).

But the cafe is ideal for an evening meet-up with friends to indulgeu00a0 in general brouhaha over snacking on the balcony of course.
