More than ten cases reported so far, many involving female felons
The ongoing India International Trade Fair (IITF) at Pragati Maidan has been attracting droves of visitors - businesspeople and curious onlookers alike. All of them are soft targets for petty criminals. 
A number of cases of theft and pick-pocketing have been reported from the event in the last few days. As MiD DAY had reported earlier, many of the crimes have allegedly been carried out by women. Four of them have been arrested.
Shawl thief
"Saroj, a resident of Vivek Vihar, had come to the Jammu and Kashmir pavilion, ostensibly to buy a shawl. While pretending she was trying on a costly piece, Saroj diverted the attention of the attendant. She then smartly hid a shawl worth Rs 20,000 inside her cloak. The attendant Bilal Ahmed caught her red-handed when she was about to leave the pavilion," said a senior police officer.
The officer said that Saroj was handed over to the police. She doesn't have any previous records. A case against her was filed by the police at IITF police station.
"She didn't have money to buy the shawl and so decided to steal it, but was caught by the attendant. She belongs to a middle class family," added the officer.
Hand in pocket
Priya Thaman, a resident of Faridabad, was visiting the Trade Fair, when a woman allegedly stole her purse containing a large amount of cash and valuables. Police officials said that the accused woman has been identified as Ranjana. She has been arrested and some cash has been recovered.
"Priya's wallet contained Rs 11,000 in cash and some documents. Ranjana has been arrested in this regard," said a senior police official.
Earlier two women Geeta and Meena were arrested from the fair for allegedly stealing the purse of a businessman's daughter.
Gold diggers
Poonam, a private bank employee, lost her gold ornaments and around
Rs 10,000 in cash. She was visiting Hall Number 1 at the Trade Fair, when the incident occurred. Police sources said that Poonam also became the victim of female thieves.
"Poonam lives in Paschim Vihar and she has got an FIR registered in this connection. She had kept the jewellery and cash in her bag that was stolen by a woman," stated the police source.
