Tips we know you are dyeing for

Rihanna and Katy Perry have coloured their hair red while Jennifer Aniston has coloured her mane black. Active! tells you how to choose a colour that suits you. Plus, how to maintain coloured hair

Avani Shah, stylist at Mad-O-Wat feels that coppers, wine, burgundy and purple suit Indian skin tones. Zarah Hooda, Regional Hair Trainer at Lakm ufffd Studio says cherry reds are good for college girls. If you are older and not too sure about bright colours, auburn, gold and brownish reds look very elegant. Hooda advises against mixing blonde shades, as it tends to look outrageous.

"Colour should be chosen keeping your profession in mind, as sadly sometimes people don't take you seriously if you have coloured your hair bright though I wish it wasn't like that," says Shah.

There are several misconceptions, which riddle our minds when it comes to hair colour. The biggest according to Shah is that colouring spoils your hair which is not true if you use the right product for colouring and for after-care condition.

As for the Henna versus hair colour question, Hooda says, "People think that Henna is good for your hair and colouring greys hair. The truth is that henna and powder dyes add a stubborn coating to your hair and dry them, as they do not come with proper conditioners. Greying is genetic and hair colour is not the 'cause' for it."

As for after care, both stylists recommend going for regular hair spa treatments, as they protect chemically treated hair. "For reds, use a 'red-rinse' shampoo, as it helps keep colour bright," says Shah. Hooda feels that sulphate-free shampoos are a must for coloured hair and advises using colour-care shampoos.

Bright blues and reds require pre-lightening of hair or bleaching, hence a lot of care needs to be taken as hair become brittle. Singer Rihanna is the favourite of both the stylists who feel that she carries long, short, red
or black; any sort of style beautifully.
