Toyota Fortuner vs Ford Endeavour
Toyota has launched the all-new Fortuner and now cold comparisons with its arch rival, the Ford Endeavour can be made. Right off the bat, the option of two diesel engines and keen pricing makes the Ford look quite attractive as compared to the Toyota. Ford’s rejigged line up of the Endeavour has made it quiet feisty that deserves to be closely examined by potential Fortuner customers. So, which of these two SUVs offers the most value? The Endeavour’s line up starts with the 2.2 litre engine, and the Trend variant is Rs 2.14 lakh cheaper than the most affordable Fortuner, which happens to be a petrol. The Endeavour also offers you the choice of an automatic transmission or four-wheel drive hardware at this Rs 23.78 lakh price point. The price for the petrol automatic variant of the Fortuner goes up to Rs 27.61 lakh. At this price you could opt for the top end Titanium variant of the 2.2L AT equipped Endeavour. The Toyota Fortuner’s two-wheel drive diesel automatic is priced at Rs 29.14 lakh and is almost in the territory of the top-end 3.2L 4x4 AT equipped Endeavour.
The Endeavour 3.2, in both its guises, significantly undercuts the diesel 4WD variants of the Fortuner, too, and is priced a full Rs 4.12 lakh (Trend vs 4WD MT) and Rs 1.35 lakh (Titanium vs 4WD AT) cheaper.
In spite of being cheaper, the Endeavour packs in a bigger, more powerful motor (200PS/470Nm vs 177PS/450Nm) and also gets an advanced Terrain Management system. It gets a whole lot of additional goodies, too, that include a sunroof, AndroidAuto and Apple CarPlay courtesy the SYNC3 infotainment system, active noise cancellation and a powered folding third row as well.
Ford has played the price game very well, and a look at the Endeavour's line-up will also tell you that the variants are well thought out. The smaller 2.2-litre variant plays in Ford's favour, giving it a lower sticker price. At Rs 23.78 lakh, one can opt for either a 4x4 manual or a 4x2 automatic variant, which lets the casual premium car buyer or the weekend off-roader take his pick.
Smart move there, Ford. That said, Toyota has the edge when it comes to comfort and space in all three row and makes for a better seven-seater. We will have a detailed comparison of theses SUVs soon.
