The stewards of the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) Ltd, in a meeting at Mahalaxmi racecourse yesterday, suspended trainer Cooji Katrak for a month and a half after Montreal, a four-year-old horse under his care, tested positive for a banned drug.
Katrak, however, will have to sit out for a total period of four and a half months as a suspended three-month sentence which he had copped for Star Future three years ago, also comes into effect, on account of this being a repeat offence.

This means Katrak will miss a good part of the forthcoming Pune season if he gets no relief from the Board of Appeal, or if he chooses not to appeal against the suspension. Katrak could not be contacted for a reaction at the time of filing this report.
