Unable to pay for sister's wedding, man stabs himself in the heart

A 25-year-old allegedly committed suicide by stabbing himself with a sharp object inside his shanty yesterday. Anis Ramsajivan Sharma used to stay at Hanuman Nagar, Malad (W), and was found in a pool of blood early on Sunday, when his neighbour went to his house.

According to Kurar police, Sharma ran a catering business from his home and used to stay alone. He was troubled for the past few days and during investigation, it was revealed that his family members had been asking him for money for his sister’s wedding, but he was unable to arrange for it.

His neighbour, Deepa Nagraj Bhatt, worked with him and supplied the homemade food made by him to various shops in Malad. When she went to his house to collect the ready material for packing around 12 am, she found Sharma lying in a pool of blood on the floor. She immediately informed the police.

Sharma was planning to go his native place, Jaunpur, at Uttar Pradesh to attend his sister’s wedding, but his wife – she also stays at Jaunpur – did not want her husband’s money spent on it. She used to call him every day and was pressurising him to not send money to his family, because of which he was worried, Sharma’s uncle Ram Dagi Sharma told the police. Police found a railway ticket for November 11 from Lokmanya LTT to Jaunpur in Sharma’s name.

Police says
“We have registered an ADR, and the body has been sent for a postmortem at Siddharth hospital, Goregaon. On primary investigation it looks like suicide. There is an injury on the left side of his chest around 2.5 inch deep near the heart. We are looking at all possible angles. If anything is revealed, further investigation will be conducted accordingly,” said senior Police Inspector LT Vhanmane from Kurar police station.
