Haunted by management errors that cropped up at last year’s edition, university authorities are determined to put up a good show at the function today
Learning from past mistakes, UoP has made special arrangements to ensure that their 107th convocation ceremony goes smoothly. To avoid the mad rush that precipitated a law and order crisis last year, the administration has set up separate centres for the students to collect their degree certificates.

The university’s exam departments have kept the students informed via emails about the function and suggested that they refer to Google maps to locate their collection centres.
A total of 70,699 students along with 13 faculties have been invited for the function. This year a record number of 22,972 Engineering students and 15,294 Commerce students will pass out from the university.
“This year we have made separate arrangements for the Commerce and Engineering departments. We have also increased the number of stalls. For the Engineering faculty we have made separate arrangements to collect their degree certificates to avoid any rush,” said an administrative official.
Controller of Examination (CoE), Dr Sampada Joshi, said, “In the email invite, we have given the exact location from where students will receive their degree certificate.”
The varsity is also setting up two help desks at the Mahatma Phule statue to guide students.
Dr C Rangrajan, Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister will deliver the convocation speech. UoP’s Vice Chancellor Dr W N Gade will be the chief guest. The main function will start at 11 am. However students will receive their degree certificates between 9 am and 4 pm in the pandals specially build for the event.
