India's pistol shooter Vijay Kumar won the gold medal in the standard pistol event in the Asian Shooting Championships in Doha Friday, but there was no quota place for the country as the event is not an Olympic event.

The army man, who has already booked his ticket to London in the Rapid Fire category, shot a score of 572/600 to tie for the lead with Yongde Jin of China. Kumar's tally of 17 inner tens to Jin's 15 helped him clinch the yellow medal. The bronze was won by Tomohiro Kida of Japan, who shot 568.

Two other Indian shooters, Samresh Jung (552) and Mahavir Singh (542), performed poorly, ending India's hopes of a team medal. Jung finished 16th while Mahavir finished 24th. The Indian team finished fifth after a combined score of 1666/1800.

China won the gold with a total of 1695 while Thailand bagged the silver with a tally of 1683 points. Japan settled for the bronze with a score of 1680.
