Hamirpur: A 24-year-old woman has accused a police sub-inspector of raping her inside a police station in Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh, but a senior police official rejected the charge. "The details given by the woman in her charges have not been substantiated besides the medical examination report and the version of her in-laws have also not supported her claim," IG (law and order) Amrendra Sengar said in Lucknow.

According to reports, the woman had alleged that SI Rahul Pandey, posted at Sumerpur police station, had raped her on June 9 night when she had gone to get her husband released. She had also accused three other policemen, including one Dinesh Baghel, of assisting the SI. The woman had got the FIR filed in this connection after meeting the Superintendent of Police last night.

"The woman was found to be over three months pregnant in the medical examination and no injury has been detected either internally or externally by the doctors," Sengar said. "Both her father and mother-in-law in their statements have not made any such allegation.

Besides, they have said their son and daughter-in-law remained present in the house ever since the former's release on June 9 to afternoon of June 11," he said. Stressing that the husband of the woman was a history- sheeter of Sumerpur police station, Sengar said the woman's version of taking money from three persons and withdrawing Rs 5,000 from her father-in-law's bank account to grease the palms of the police to secure the release of her husband have also been found to be untrue.

Sengar said she gave three different timings of the incident stating it to be 1 AM in the night in the FIR, during the examination she stated it to be around 11.30 PM and gave yet another time in her verbal statement. The sentries on duty at the police station have not confirmed the visit of any woman at the police station on that day or time and the circle officer of Sadar has also confirmed his presence there around the same time.

The charges levelled against SI Rahul Pandey, constable Dinesh and two others in the FIR have not been substantiated in the investigations, the IG added.
