The Beijing-based Chinese cellphone maker Xiaomi has sold a record 1 million smartphones in India, despite the boycott calls on Chinese goods in the country. With this massive sale in a short span, Xiaomi aims to gradually become the biggest smartphone vendor in India. Lei Jun, founder and CEO of Xiaomi said that India is an extremely important market in Xiaomi's globalisation strategy.

Lei also stated that India is in fact the largest market for Xiaomi outside China. This move seems to highlight Xiaomi’s effort to revive the Chinese smartphone industry which went to a state of decline. Xiaomi plans to continue investing in India and improve its after sales service.
Huawei, Xiaomi’s arch rival said that it will start manufacturing its first smartphone model in India by partnering with a local factory. It is not only Xiaomi or Huawei, but almost all major smartphone brands are eyeing their presence in India.
Data from Counterpoint Research shows that till now Chinese brands have already captured 27% of the Indian market, in a country of high competition, Chinese brands need to properly localise their operations and focus on customer base to enhance sale and profit. Indian smartphone market is one that no one can neglect and every brand seems to have long term commitment towards it.
