Collector and die-hard Shammi Kapoor fan Rajan Jayakar has spent the last five years collecting memorabilia of his idol.

Rajan, who started planning for the exhibition nine months ago as a tribute to the artiste on his 80th birthday, is sad however that the actor will not be present in person for the occasion Rajan recalls bunking school as a thirteen-year-old to watch his first Shammi Kapoor film, Junglee, and says that he could not help be charmed by Kapoor's trademark flamboyance.
"Five years ago, I saw a small collection of his souvenirs being displayed at a function where he received the lifetime achievement award. That's when I decided I would start collecting his memorabilia," he shares.
Posters, songbooks, lobby cards and photographs will be displayed at the exhibition, that opens this Sunday.
Incidentally, it also marks the first time a private collection is being displayed.
"We hope to encourage private collectors to showcase their work to more people," says Sabyasachi Mukherjee, director, CSMS, adding, "It is also our way of paying homage to the most popular actor of the '60s and '70s."
