Rizvi beat the Kurla school by an innings and 181 runs to win the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) inter-school U-14 tournament.
Earlier, riding on tons from Yashasvi Jaiswal (127) and Shoaib Siddiqui (153), Rizvi scored a mammoth 403 after they bundled out Al-Barkaat for a paltry 78 in the first innings.
In the second innings, riding on all-rounder Jaiswal’s 4-39, Rizvi got the Kurla school out for 144. Al-Barkaat’s Akash Tripathi (77) was the only saving grace.
Rizvi coach Raju Pathak credited team effort for the win. “Yashasvi was outstanding in the match and even Shoaib played his part to perfection. It was a complete team effort,” he said.
Satisfied despite defeat
Meanwhile, despite the loss, Al-Barkaat coach Nafees Khan was satisfied with the team’s performance. “It is an achievement for my boys to get Rizvi all out in the final. In the entire tournament, they put on mammoth totals, but no team could get them all out. I am satisfied with the way my team played,” he said.
