The girl's brother and his four friends abduct him and demand ransom; police nab kidnappers by tracking their cell phones

After a scary experience, a 17-year-old student found out the hard way that texting a girl could prove dangerous to his wellbeing.

Akshay, a resident of Electronic City, was drawn towards a girl he had met during a college program. He managed to get her mobile number and began sending her messages.

Initially she ignored him, but as the messages became incessant, she informed her brother Kishore Reddy (22), who decided to warn the boy to stay away.

After the warnings failed to have any effect, Reddy along with four friends, abducted Akshay in his own car on Sunday and then messaged the victim's elder brother, Yashwanth, demanding ransom for his brother's release.

Yashwanth approached the Parappana Agrahara police seeking help and filed a complaint.

The police suggested that he continue to be in touch with the kidnappers, while they began to track the caller's location.

The strategy worked and within five hours of the complaint being filed, a police team nabbed Reddy and his friends and rescued Akshay.

Deputy Commissioner of Police P S Harsha said, "We nabbed the accused before they could chalk out some diabolic plan to get rid of Akshay after getting the ransom."

Reddy confessed that he wanted to teach the victim a lesson since he was harassing his sister.

"We have recovered the victim's car and booked Reddy, Hemanth (22), Girish (20), Narayana Reddy and Shivram (20), for kidnapping and remanded them to judicial custody," Harsha added.
