A well-known city builder and Juhu resident Anil Mittal of Mittal Builders will soon take Skoda Auto India Ltd to consumer court.

Mittal alleges that Skoda has failed to compensate him for what he claims to be a manufacturing defect in a car he bought. Mittal is now ready to file a suit against the Skoda car dealer, Nummer Eins in Chembur and Skoda Auto India Ltd.

On Feb 6, 2003, Mittal purchased four cars from Skoda Auto last year from the companys dealer Nummer Eins. Of these one was an Octavia Ambiente, worth Rs 10.47 lakh.

Mittal alleges that from the beginning the car had several complaints including a malfunctioning air-conditioner, a noise from the rear side of the car and improper pick-up.

Although Mittal says he sent the car several times to the dealers workshop, the problem persisted. He claims that the dealers representative told him that the car had some manufacturing defects.

Says Mittal, On two occasions the workshop personnel met with an accident while taking my car on trial. I have written letters to the company as well the dealer asking for a replacement, but they are not responding.

The car is still at Nummer Eins. Mittal adds, On June 4, I received an email from Skoda. The email says that Skoda is not be responsible for any damages and that the matter is solely between the dealer and me.

Says Mittals lawyer Anand Patwardhan, We are planning to file a case against Skoda in the consumer court by the end of this week. We are trying to collect more details to establish our case.

Says an official from Nummer Eins, This is between Skoda and Mittal. We cannot comment on the issue.

However, when contacted, a senior official from Skoda refused to speak to the reporter.
