More than 150 volunteers of the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) and the World Wide Fund for Nature - India (WWF) will carry out a drive at the Borivali National Park in the western suburbs of this metropolis tomorrow to check disposal of garbage in the green belt of the city on the occasion of the Mahashivratri day tomorrow. BNHS conservation officer Deepak Apte said that the volunteers will assemble at the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, popularly known as the Borivali National Park, in the morning to check that devotees do not carry plastic bags, beedi, cigarettes and match-boxes inside the park. ''We will assist the forest department to ensure that cleanliness is maintained inside the park,'' he said. More than a lakh devotees visit the park on the Mahashivratri day and offer prayers at the ancient caves in the park. BNHS spokesperson Isaac Kehimkar said that many a times people throw lighted cigarettes, which may be a potential cause of forest fires. ''We will render all possible help from our side,'' he added. Besides the forest guards, additional police force will be deployed at the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, police officials said.
