(Right) The MiD DAY report on June 11 pic/Nishant A Bhuse | Postman Rocket Raja, the zapakmail.com mascot, depicted riding a rocket, in ad hoardings across the city, is all set for an image makeover.
Raja’s new avatar, which is being conceptualised by fashion designer Rohit Verma, comes at the heels of protests by city postmen who felt the ad showed them in poor light (Rocket Raja under fire, MiD DAY, June 11).
In the earlier ad, to display the speed of the email service, Rocket Raja was shown riding a rocket to deliver letters fast.
Said Verma, “He is not an ordinary man anymore but a funky youth icon with a jazzy look, dressed in electric colours. He will, of course, be a step ahead from his past look.”
Said Arun Mehra, CEO, Zapakmail, “We never intended to hurt the sentiments of the postmen. We respect their grievances and have opted for a makeover. Rocket Raja will now sport new attire and will be even more rocking.”
Johnny Flower, the model riding the rocket in the present ad, says he is looking forward to his new avatar. “I am excited, kyon ki ab postman banega rock star bilkul naye avatar mein,” Flower said.
Zapak has produced a Rocket Raja farewell music video for their website. The video features cutouts of the MiD DAY report, scenes from the protests by postmen and grieving Zapak members bidding farewell to Rocket Raja, who is shown riding the rocket into space. | | | |
