Lone survivor of ambush attack alerted control room immediately

In the 50-odd operations that constable Arun Jadhav assisted slain encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar, Jadhav has sustained bullet injuries thrice, and each time he lived to tell the tale. He was by Salaskar's side on that fateful Wednesday night too, but unfortunately his boss wasn't as lucky as Jadhav.



However, it was Jadhav's presence of mind that led to the arrest of Azam Amir Kasab at Girgaum Chowpatty. Jadhav was the lone survivor of the ambush attack near Cama Hospital that killed six cops, including ATS chief Hemant Karkare, Addl CP Ashok Kamte and encounter specialist Salaskar.

Tyre bursts

After shooting the cops, the terrorists threw their bodies out and fled in the police Qualis. The tyre of the vehicle burst near Mantralaya and the terrorists abandoned the vehicle, while Jadhav was still lying in the back.
 "A bullet had hit me and I thought I wouldn't survive. I pretended to be dead," recalled Jadhav.
The terrorists hijacked a Skoda near Mantralaya and fled the scene.

It was then that Jadhav called the control room from the wireless set fixed in the vehicle and narrated the incident. The control room alerted police patrols and Kasab was intercepted at Girgaum chowpatty and arrested.

Third-time lucky
Jadhav was first injured during an encounter with gangster Sada Pawle and Vijay Tandel, at Ghatkopar on September 26, 1997.
On June 10, 2003, he took a bullet in his left leg during an encounter with gangster Navin Shetty of Hemant Pujari gang at Bandra Kurla Complex.
And finally on Wednesday, November 26, Jadhav sustained four bullet injuries, three on his left arm and one on his right.
