Even as the Shiv Sena woos the Marathi vote bank with its Shiv vada pav, the Congress is not to be left behind. It plans to host a kanda poha festival at Azad Maidan next month. Congress leader Rajhans Singh said, "Both kanda and poha are made in Maharashtra. So, we are planning a kanda poha festival."
The Congress plans to invite entries from across the state to participate in the festival. "We will ensure that there are representatives from Kolhapur, Malvan, Konkan, Vidarbha and Solapur. Plans for the festival will be finalised at a meeting with top leaders later this week," said Singh. Pravin Ranga, a businessman from APMC, said, "For the past two months, potatoes coming to the market are from UP. Earlier, we would get our supply from MP and Gujarat."
Around 27 stalls were set up at the Shiv Sena's much-touted vada pav festival held on Monday at Shivaji Park.
'Vada pav is north Indian' It's bizarre, but Congress leader Rajhans Singh thinks so. "Though vada pav is very popular in Maharashtra, it is more of a north Indian dish. The ingredients of vada pav aloo and besan (gram flour) come from the north and those who make vada pavs are generally north Indians. Their contribution towards the vada pav is greater than that of Maharashtrians," he said. |
