Beat it! Vineeth performs at a music show in Bangalore
A young vocalist from Bangalore will soon be launching a unique music album based on beat boxing.
Vineeth Vincent, a vocalist and a student of Christ College, enjoys the distinction of being the city's only beat boxer and the first Indian ever to bring out such a music album.
"This will be the first of its kind in India," said Vineeth. "I have not come across any beat boxers in the city or even in the country so far. I'm sure the album that fuses beat boxing and other forms of music will create a history of sorts."
Vineeth, who leads Christ College's western acoustics group, Head Phones, is well known for his unique beat boxing skills. He produces beats, rhythm, and musical sounds using his mouth. He even plays pop background, soft rock and western music.
He is capable of imitating music played by a DJ kit. He simulates horns, musical instruments, and the sounds of a western drum kit. This rare ability has catapulted him to a different level.
Besides this, Vineeth is also known for fusing beat boxing with alternative, soft and hard rock with a hint of pop. He can also blend it with self composed rhythm and sounds.
"He is simply excellent and a rare talent," said Saravana, Vineeth's friend. "We have not seen anybody in India doing this before. One can't make out the difference between a DJ kit's output and Vineeth's beat boxing."
Vineeth has successfully performed in more than hundred shows across the country in the last ten months. This includes shows in Ahmedabad, Mysore and Bangalore. He will also be travelling to Sri Lanka this year end.
Vineeth performs beat boxing for seven to eight minutes at a single stretch, which comprises various forms of western band, songs and rhythm. He performs at fashion shows, product launches, corporate events, mall promotions, road shows and private parties.
The album
Vineeth's first ever music album will have tracks incorporating a bit of hip hop, rap and beat boxing. It is a fusion of beat boxing and western music. The album is expected to hit music stores by 2009. "I hope this experiment will be a success," said Vineeth. "About fifty per cent of the work is complete. The album will be available early next year."
About beat boxing
Beat boxing is a method of producing drum beats, rhythm and musical sounds using one's voice without any instruments. It's a form of vocal percussion connected with hip hop culture although it is not limited to hip hop music. It mainly involves the art of producing drum beats, rhythm and musical sounds using one's mouth, lips, tongue, voice and more. It may also involve singing, vocal imitation of turntablism, the simulation of horns, strings and other musical instruments.
