By: Kaumudi Gurjar

Vikram Sharma(age 25 yrs) passed away at 11.30 pm yesterday. Sharma was suffering from tamiflu side effects.

Vikram Sharma's entire body, including his heart, swelled  dangerously after doctors administered the anti-viral to him.

Vikram Sharma (21), an employee of a major retail chain, was battling for his life for the last nine days, allegedly due to severe side effects of Tamiflu, which he was administered even before results of the swab test which came positive were out.

On August 9, Sharma was admitted to Sassoon Hospital, where he was treated for malaria, and was shifted to the Infosys Super Specialty ward after he displayed symptoms like fever and breathlessness. Sharma's brother Shankar, said, "Doctors prescribed Tamiflu even before his swab results from National Institute of Virology (NIV) arrived. I understand that everyone is under pressure, but they should be a little more careful with the patients."

Doctors at the Sassoon Hospital say a swelling took hold of Vikram's body, including his heart, due to a  side effect of Tamiflu and other anti-virals.

Dr Arun Jamakar, dean of the Sassoon Hospital and Dr Ashok Ladhha, state nodal officer for swine flu were unavailable for comment.
