With the death of the Delhi gang rape victim, many questions have come to the fore. Did the 23 year-old had to lose her life to a crime, which not only killed her, but shamed the whole nation? We spoke to women politicians from different parties and asked them, ‘How can rape can be curbed?’

While some blamed the patriarchal approach of the Indian society, others claimed that mere existence of laws won’t help but they have to be implemented at the earliest. They concurred that only when such laws are put into practice, will we have a better society where women won’t be raped, eve teased or objectified by men.

Supriya Sule, the Member of Parliament of NCP from Baramati, believes that the accused should be ostracised by society. Poonam Mahajan, BJP youth leader, emphasised that this incident should jolt all Indians and compel them to create an awareness about gender equality in their kids.

However, Sharmila Thackeray of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, believes that the police needs to be sensitive towards women while registering an FIR.
