Marathon organisers asked to pay Rs 20 Lakh as deposit
The deposit is to compensate for any damage or littering at the Bandra-Worli Sea Link during the Mumbai Marathon tomorrow
For the first time, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has taken a deposit of Rs 20 lakh from the organisers of the Mumbai Marathon. The Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) is a part of the track for the marathon participants. The compensation will be deducted from the deposit in case there is some damage or littering on the sea link.
Speaking to MiD DAY, Executive Engineer Arun Deodhar from MSRDC said, “The BWSL will remain shut for four hours in the morning due to the marathon. We have already taken Rs 20 lakh as deposit from the organisers. We will deduct the required amount from the deposit if we come across any littering or any damage to the Sea Link.”
However, till now, the MSRDC is not clear as to who will pay up for loss of toll when the sea link is closed to motorists during the marathon. The toll collection is the responsibility of Mumbai Entry Point Ltd.
“The toll contractor is aware that the Sea Link will be closed for four hours tomorrow,” an MSRDC official said. “However, till now, he has not intimated us regarding the compensation.” An official from the toll collection agency said that MSRDC hadn’t compensated for the loss of toll in the past two years, so this year they were not very positive regarding the compensation.
