TV actress and model Shikha Joshi approached Khar police station in October 2011 claiming that cosmetic surgeon Vijay Sharma had molested her when she went to his clinic in Khar over a complication she had with her breast implants. According to the actress, she had got breast implants done by the accused doctor in 2006. However, five years after the operation, she found a lump in her breast, which she wanted to have checked. Joshi has alleged that the doctor molested her by touching her inappropriately, when she came for the checkup to his clinic. A lady doctor, who practises in the same clinic, refuted the claims of the actress, saying that whenever any treatment takes place, they have two attendants in the cabin.
The then 40-year-old model and actor allegedly committed suicide by slitting her throat at her Versova residence on May 16, 2015. She had earlier attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills in 2012 and, in November 2013, she had been arrested by the Amboli police for pelting stones at the residence of the doctor. In an audio clip purportedly recorded before the suicide attempt, she said she had taken her life because of harassment by the doctor and because she was fed up of men.
Police officials investigating the alleged suicide of model-cum-actor Shikha Joshi had claimed that the post-mortem report has revealed she had 'ÃÂÃÂpractised' slitting her neck three times before delivering the final blow with a kitchen knife. According to a police official from Versova police station, the post-mortem report from the hospital has pointed out that there are three cuts on the right side of Shikha'ÃÂÃÂs throat, which meant that she had tried to see if she could slit her throat from that side. Finally, she slit her throat with an 8-cm cut from the left side, which resulted in her death due to excessive bleeding, a police official said.
The actress, known for her role in the 2013 Hindi film B.A. Pass, used to stay in the New MHADA Colony in Versova with her husband Riyaz Pathan and flatmate Madhu Bharti. On the fateful day, Bharti heard screams coming from the bathroom and when she forced the door open, she found Joshi lying in a pool of blood, with a knife next to her. Shikha's husband was not present in the flat and when Bharti called him, he said he was in Malad. JoshiÃÂÃÂÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂs brother has, however, alleged that she was murdered and the police said they are not ruling out the possibility.
Shikha Joshi could have been saved, had her roommate taken her immediately to a hospital instead of recording a two-minute video of hers. The deceased model'ÃÂÃÂs brother has pinned the blame of his sister's death on her roommate, Madhu Bharti. Scared that she would be blamed for the incident, Madhu had recorded a video of Shikha, in which she questioned why the latter had slit her own throat. Shikha'ÃÂÃÂs brother Vishesh Joshi had told the police that the delay in taking Shikha to the hospital had resulted in her death. The clip showed Shikha blaming Sharma and a few other 'ÃÂÃÂmarried men'ÃÂÃÂ for forcing her to take the extreme step.
Seventeen months after Shikha Joshi committed suicide, the Versova police booked the cosmetic surgeon she had named in a video made by her friends before she died. The Versova police had initially registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the matter but have now booked the cosmetic surgeon Dr. Vijay Sharma in the matter on charges of abetting the suicide. He has since been granted bail.
Now, two years after Shikha Joshi's death, her brother will embark on a hunger strike at Delhi's Jantar Mantar to demand a CBI investigation and to protest the bail granted to the accused.
