When you get to see a passionate kiss rather than read about one, Mills & Boon suddenly seems passe. With one of these love comics in hand, that boring commute to work will never be the same again
Those of you who got by your teenage years without a copy of Star Love Stories in Pictures, need to do some literary rewinding, suggest those of us who read them secretly by hiding them under the book jacket of Catcher in The Rye.
Euro Books has launched the series originally printed by DC Thomson and Co. Ltd in India, and after reading a few of the latest titles, page-to-page (all the while smirking), we say these will make the perfect light read on the bus, train or on the pot.
We started our journey into Love Land by getting a dose of Dangerous Love, the story of what else, a dangerous but dashing boss who seduces a budding photographer. Like most love stories, there's a hitch he's hitched, and a criminal at that. But why worry when the heroine has a brutish ex-boyfriend, who just happens to be a cop, all ready to save her. Ah, the joys of pulp romance!
The comics which were originally published in black and white, have been reprinted in colour. So, it should be easy for you to figure out what the hunk means when he compliments the buxom blonde, telling her that her hair matches perfectly with her blue eyes.
Along with dramatic story lines one centres around three female flat mates and their entangled love lives, another follows an independent woman being wooed by an impossibly rich businessman the comics are chic in presentation and might just be a convenient way to get your weekly dose of romance.
The Star Love Stories in Pictures have been published by Euro Books India, and are available for Rs 100 |
