Ahmedabad-based artist Ankit Patel recently marked a significant milestone in his musical journey by presenting his first-ever ticketed one-man band concert, drawing an audience of more than 500 people at HK Hall.

Held on May 30, the concert showcased Ankit's signature format of combining live singing with instrumental performance, a style he has been developing and presenting at weddings, corporate events and social gatherings for nearly a decade.

For Ankit, the event represented more than just another performance.

"Performing at private events and social functions is one thing, but presenting a ticketed concert is a completely different experience. People choose to attend because they believe in your music, and that makes it very special," he says.

The event featured a blend of contemporary Bollywood music, unplugged renditions and nostalgic favourites, showcasing the versatility that has become a hallmark of his performances. The one-man-band format allowed him to move between genres and musical styles, keeping the audience thoroughly engaged. The audience's response reinforced his belief that there is a growing appetite for independent live music experiences and innovative performance formats.

"I was overwhelmed by the support and encouragement. Seeing so many people come together for a concept-driven musical show was incredibly rewarding," Ankit says.

Having completed over 2,000 performances at private, social and corporate events in India and overseas over the years, Ankit views the concert as a natural progression in his artistic journey.

Ankit is also an advocate of recreated and remixed music, provided it remains respectful to the original composition.

"Every generation connects with music differently. When classic songs are presented in a fresh format without losing their essence, they find new audiences and remain relevant," he says.

Despite his extensive stage experience, Ankit remains committed to learning and self-improvement. He has been undergoing vocal training under Vikas Parikh of the Mewati Gharana for the past six years and considers himself a lifelong student of music.

Looking ahead, he plans to develop Gujarati musical content and come up with specialised creations for cultural and festive performances, including Navratri events, while continuing to refine the one-man-band format.

"The concert has given me confidence that audiences are willing to support independent artists and innovative formats. I am confident this is only the beginning of a much larger journey," he adds.
