Neil Nayyar, Sonu Nigam.
From serenading Bollywood legends on the Arabic kamancheh and Waterless Glass Harp to scoring upcoming feature films, this California-based musician continues to redefine the possibilities of global sound.
Multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer, actor, author, and record-holder Neil Nayyar continues to push the boundaries of global music. With mastery of more than 140 instruments and fluency in 11 languages, Neil moves fluidly between classical Indian traditions, cinematic scoring, and contemporary electronic soundscapes. Rooted in the meditative disciplines of sitar, tabla, and tanpura, he approaches every instrument as a unique avenue for musical expression and human connection.
During a recent high-profile engagement in San Jose, Neil brought his extraordinary talents to the stage for legendary Indian playback singer Sonu Nigam, who is currently on his Revolution Tour 2026 across North America. Showcasing his signature multi-instrumental versatility, Neil captivated the audience-and Nigam himself-with soulful renditions performed on the saxophone, the traditional bowed kamancheh, and the delicate Waterless Glass Harp.
Neil performed iconic melodies including the soaring title track Kal Ho Naa Ho on the Waterless Glass Harp, the timeless and emotional Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin on the kamancheh, and Suraj Hua Maddham on the saxophone. His performance left a lasting impression on both the audience and the maestro. Nigam was particularly moved by the Waterless Glass Harp performance, warmly praising Neil with an enthusiastic, "Wonderful job!"
Reflecting on the unforgettable evening, Neil shared his excitement:
"Sharing the room with a legend like Sonu Nigam and bringing these iconic songs to life for him on such unique instruments was an absolute dream. I can't believe I did that. It was a dream come true. I'm grateful to Bhavini Joshi at Instant Karma Events and Kricel for inviting me to be a part of this memorable night. I'll remember it forever."
This milestone performance adds to Neil's already remarkable career, which has been marked by collaborations and performances alongside icons from the Indian and international entertainment industries. Nayyar has previously shared the stage with celebrated figures including legendary Bollywood actress and dancer Hema Malini, known as the "Dream Girl," Meenakshi Sheshadri, legendary Punjabi singer Gurdas Maan, Bollywood star Govinda, and international singer and Bollywood actor Ali Zafar. Neil recently completed a five-city North American Roshni Tour with Zafar.
Nayyar's performance portfolio also includes memorable appearances for acclaimed vocalists Sunidhi Chauhan and Nitin Mukesh, further establishing his reputation as an artist capable of moving seamlessly across cultures, genres, and musical traditions.
Looking ahead, Neil's artistic evolution is taking him deeper into the world of cinematic storytelling. He is the film composer for the upcoming Punjabi action feature Ek Onkar, directed by filmmaker Kavi Raz. Slated for release on November 13, 2026, the film's score highlights Neil's ability to translate his extraordinary mastery of more than 140 instruments into emotionally grounded cinematic music.
Through his work on Ek Onkar, Neil aims to continue breaking cultural and creative barriers, using music as a universal language that can connect audiences across backgrounds and borders. Moreover, Neil is also an actor and has signed up with Golden Artists Entertainment to represent him for film, commercial and web series projects.
Neil Nayyar's journey offers a vibrant glimpse into the future of modern sound. By marrying the rich, meditative depth of his Indian musical heritage with the fluid pulse of contemporary American culture, he embodies a generation of creators who refuse to choose between their roots and their surroundings.
As Neil bridges Eastern classical discipline with global pop, film, and electronic soundscapes, he continues to carve out a distinctive place in the world of music. His ability to move between traditional instruments, modern production, live performance, and cinematic composition positions him as a unique artist helping shape the borderless future of music-and we are all for it.
