Dapr.
The idea for Dapr. came out of a simple observation we made back in 2013, when we were both at USC in California. Indian men were spending on grooming, but almost everything on the shelf was either an international brand not built for Indian hair, skin and climate, or a local option that felt like a copy of something else. There was no homegrown brand that Indian men could trust the way they trust a good tailor or a good barber. That gap stayed with us long after college, and in 2018 we decided to build the brand we wished existed. Dapr. started as an attempt to create grooming products formulated specifically for Indian conditions, without shortcuts and without copying what was already out there.
What sets the brand apart
We built Dapr. around a no shortcuts, no copycats, long term philosophy, and that shows up in the product itself. We introduced India's first pomade and created the Beard Butter, which combines a beard oil and balm into one product, both firsts for the Indian market. We are also completely bootstrapped, which forces a different kind of discipline. Every product decision has to earn its place, and every rupee spent has to be justified by what it does for the customer, not by what looks good on a pitch deck. That discipline is what we think differentiates us in a market where a lot of brands are chasing quick growth over quality.
Individual strengths and roles
Yatin leads product development, operations and supply chain, which means every formulation, every ingredient choice and every manufacturing decision runs through him. Swaroop leads acquisition, revenue growth and go to market strategy, focused on how we reach customers and build demand. The split works because it lets each of us go deep in our area while staying aligned on the same long term vision for the brand. Neither side of the business happens without the other, and that balance has been core to how Dapr. has grown.
Key milestones
Launching India's first pomade was an early milestone that told us there was real appetite for innovation in this category, not just copies of existing products. Creating the Beard Butter and seeing customers respond to a genuinely new format was another turning point. Staying completely bootstrapped through the growth we have had so far is in itself a milestone we are proud of, because it means every bit of progress has been earned directly from customers choosing and trusting Dapr., not from external capital.
Biggest challenges
Growing without outside funding means every decision, from inventory to marketing spend, has real constraints attached to it. There is no cushion to absorb mistakes, so we have had to be deliberate and careful with every choice, especially in the early years. That has shaped how we think about entrepreneurship. We have moved from a mindset of wanting to prove ourselves quickly to one that values sustainable, long term decision making. We would rather grow slower and get it right than move fast and compromise on quality or trust.
Vision for the next few years
We want to keep expanding the range of problems Dapr. solves for Indian men, building more products rooted in the same research and long term thinking that shaped our first launches. We are also looking at deepening our reach across India and building the brand's presence in more cities and more categories within grooming, while staying true to the same formulation standards that got us here.
Long term impact and legacy
Beyond the business itself, we want Dapr. to represent proof that a homegrown, bootstrapped Indian brand can compete on trust and quality without compromise. Our anchor line has always been that we are not the loudest or the most funded, but we want to be the most trusted. If Dapr. can leave behind a standard for how Indian grooming brands are built, formulated and run, that would mean more to us than any single milestone.
