Karan Rughani.
There are some entrepreneurs who build companies. And then there are those rare few who build belief - belief in people, in dreams, and in the idea that even the hardest falls can become the foundation for a greater comeback.
Karan Rughani, Founder & CEO of Entertainment Sportz, belongs firmly to the second category.
What started as a humble dream in an industrial town of Gujarat has today evolved into one of India's promising event and experiential brands, with national ambitions, franchise expansion plans, and a projected trajectory toward becoming a â¹300-500 crore experiential enterprise over the next five years. But the story of Entertainment Sportz is not merely about scale or accolades. It is the story of resilience. Of survival. Of reinvention.
When Karan entered the event management industry over a decade ago, organized event management in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities was still largely unexplored. During his early professional exposure, he noticed something most people overlooked: businesses and families in smaller cities deeply desired world-class experiences, but lacked professional partners who could deliver them.
Armed with conviction, courage, and an audacious dream, he returned after completing his education in Mumbai and began laying the foundation of Entertainment Sportz in Ankleshwar.
There was no investor backing him. No family empire. No inherited network.
In his own words, the company began with "zero penny."
There were moments when the company nearly disappeared. But he also discovered something during those difficult years: true entrepreneurs are not defined by how they perform in comfort. They are defined by how they endure collapse.
"The dream that you have built for yourself suddenly crumbles and you realise that it is so fragile. And there is nothing you can do to stop it. So you cope with it and fight. And as much as people may think they are your weakest times, you are fighting the highest at such times. There lies the resurrection."
That resurrection became the turning point of his journey.
Entertainment Sportz was never built merely as an event management company. Karan envisioned it as an experience ecosystem - one capable of transforming ordinary gatherings into unforgettable memories.
From corporate conferences and weddings to sports events, concerts, exhibitions, and experiential celebrations, the company steadily carved its niche through precision, creativity, and emotional intelligence.
The company's philosophy was simple: people may forget an event, but they never forget how an experience made them feel.
Over time, Entertainment Sportz grew from a tiny team of three to a recognized national player serving clients across India. The company's journey has been marked by recognitions including the India Leadership Award, India 5000 MSME Award for Quality Excellence, and recognition among the Top 10 Most Promising Event Management Companies in India.
Inside Entertainment Sportz, culture is treated as emotional infrastructure. Employees are trained not only in operations and execution, but in ownership, empathy, and attention to detail.
Karan believes growth is not merely a graph.
"Growth is not a number. It is an emotion. It is what your customer values about you."
Like countless businesses in the events industry, the pandemic brought devastation. Events disappeared overnight. Revenue streams vanished. But somewhere amid the silence of lockdown, another transformation occurred within Karan.
"A man randomly rang our bell asking for food. He had no work since the lockdown. I felt deeply ashamed."
That moment stayed with him long after the lockdown ended.
"Donating isn't enough anymore. I pledged to earn - for those who need it. Every penny I can."
Today, Karan says he is no longer building Entertainment Sportz only for personal success.
"I am no longer working only for myself. When I grow, I create employment. When Entertainment Sportz expands, thousands of households benefit from it."
That belief has become one of the strongest driving forces behind the company's franchise-led growth strategy. Karan believes Tier-2 and Tier-3 India are no longer secondary markets. They are the future growth engines of the country's experiential economy.
Perhaps the most defining aspect of Karan Rughani's story is his relationship with failure.
"There are four phases in any entrepreneur's life. The first phase is when the world says, âOh, he has potential.' The second phase is, âAh, he has arrived.' The third phase is, âOh, he's finished.' And then comes the fourth phase - âAh, he is back.'"
That final phase - the comeback - is where Karan believes his story truly begins.
It is not the story of someone who never failed.
It is the story of someone who refused to stay defeated.
