During a film industry event held in Andheri West, Mumbai, filmmaker Babai Sen interacted with members of the media and shared details about his upcoming film projects and his vision for expanding the reach of Bengali cinema across India.
Speaking during the interaction, Sen announced that he is preparing to launch two feature films simultaneously. According to him, one project will be a South Indian production featuring actors from the South Indian film industry, while the other will be a Bollywood film with established Hindi cinema actors.
Sen said discussions with the respective artists have already taken place and that the initial agreement process has been completed. He added that the projects, including the cast and other production details, will be officially announced at a press conference in the coming weeks.
The filmmaker also expressed his desire to shoot his upcoming Bollywood project in West Bengal. He said the state's evolving production environment and increasing support for filmmakers have made it an attractive destination for large-scale film productions.
According to Sen, bringing a Bollywood production to West Bengal could create employment opportunities for local actors, technicians and aspiring film professionals while strengthening creative collaboration between the Bengali and Hindi film industries.
Speaking about talent development, Sen revealed that he intends to introduce two new actors through his forthcoming productions. He emphasized that the casting process will be conducted entirely through open auditions, ensuring that aspiring performers are selected solely on the basis of talent and performance.
Reflecting on his Bengali film "Shiuli," Sen said the film received an encouraging response from audiences. He added that plans are underway to release dubbed versions in Hindi and Malayalam with the aim of introducing the film and Bengali storytelling to a wider audience across the country.
"My dream is to represent Bengal and Bengali cinema on a larger national platform. Through these projects, I want to create opportunities for new talent and take our stories to audiences across different languages," Sen said during the media interaction.
The filmmaker added that more details regarding both projects will be announced officially in the coming weeks as pre-production progresses.
