Among the artists contributing to that global growth is Abeer Arora, a Delhi-born, Dubai-based singer-songwriter whose music has amassed more than 500 million views on YouTube and earned him a dedicated international fanbase.
While many artists spend years searching for a breakthrough moment, Arora's journey began long before streaming platforms and viral hits became part of the industry conversation.
"I've been passionate about music for as long as I can remember," says Arora, recalling his early years. One of his first experiences performing came at school, where he was regularly selected to lead morning prayers. At home, his musical education came through radio stations, television broadcasts, and hours spent listening to artists ranging from Bollywood legends to international performers.
What started as a childhood fascination gradually evolved into a serious pursuit. During his school years, Arora participated in singing competitions and experimented with multiple genres and languages. One of his earliest recordings was made using a gaming headset while he was in sixth grade, a memory he now views as the unofficial beginning of his career.
The defining turning point arrived years later.
After completing his bachelor's degree in Sydney, Arora returned home and decided to pursue music professionally. The initial results were far from spectacular. His first two songs failed to generate significant attention, leaving him still searching for his artistic identity.
Everything changed with the release of Kangana Tera Ni.
Written in a single day and created without the pressure of expectations, the song became a massive success, eventually crossing 250 million views and transforming Arora's career.
"Kangana wasn't just my biggest song," he says. "It was the moment I realized music wasn't just a passion. It was my calling."
Since then, Arora has continued building his presence across digital platforms and live stages. His YouTube channel has attracted more than 650,000 subscribers, while his live performance career has taken him to over 400 shows worldwide.
His growing reputation has also led to performances at several high-profile celebrity weddings and private events, including celebrations associated with Bollywood actors Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif, as well as Indian cricketers Axar Patel and Shikhar Dhawan.
What distinguishes Arora in an increasingly crowded Punjabi music landscape is his ability to merge contemporary global sounds with traditional Punjabi influences. Rather than targeting a niche audience, he focuses on creating music that remains accessible to listeners regardless of language or geography.
"I keep my music simple and relatable," he explains. "Even if someone doesn't speak Punjabi fluently, I want them to connect with the emotion behind the song."
That philosophy has helped his music resonate with audiences across different countries and cultures, particularly among younger listeners seeking modern production combined with authentic storytelling.
Looking ahead, Arora sees Punjabi music playing an even larger role on the international stage. His ambitions include global collaborations, larger performances, and continued experimentation with sounds that bridge Eastern and Western influences.
For an artist whose journey began with a pair of FM headphones and a school prayer microphone, the achievements are notable. Yet Arora believes the most important milestones still lie ahead.
With hundreds of millions of views, a growing international audience, and a clear artistic vision, he continues to position himself as one of the contemporary voices helping take Punjabi music to the world.
