CareOne TrueCare Cream.
Frustrated by an industry that sells complexity, two Kolkata founders bet that one honest cream could replace an entire shelf. Five thousand buyers later, the idea is catching on.
Like millions of Indians, Niwash Kumar Mandal once had a bathroom shelf that only ever grew. A cleanser here, a serum there, a âmiracle' someone swore by online. At his peak he was juggling close to 15 products and spending nearly â¹5,000 every month - and yet his skin looked more tired, not less. "I remember standing at the mirror one morning, surrounded by half-used bottles, thinking: how did skincare get this complicated, and this expensive, for results I couldn't even see?"
That frustration slowly hardened into a suspicion - that maybe the problem wasn't his skin at all, but an industry that quietly profits from keeping people confused. Sell more products, manufacture more anxiety, and when nothing works, sell more still. "We call it skincare gaslighting," he says. "You're made to believe your skin is the problem, when usually it's the routine."
Along with co-founder Vikas Pandey, he set out to test an idea most brands would never dare: what if one honest, well-made cream could do the work of an entire shelf? In 2024, after months of formulation, CareOne launched TrueCare Cream.
Into that one tube go 22 active ingredients - among them 5% niacinamide, alpha arbutin, a stable vitamin C derivative and broad-spectrum sun protection - meant to hydrate, brighten, even out tone and shield skin from the sun, in a single 30-second step, morning and night. No ten-step ritual. No upsell to the ânext' product.
Some of the brand's choices feel pointed in a market long built on fairness creams and fear. TrueCare makes no whitening or fairness claims - only a promise of healthier, more even, visibly fresher skin. It is made for every skin type, for men and women alike, and leaves out 47 commonly flagged ingredients, from parabens to mineral oil. "Your face is not a science project," reads one of the brand's lines - a quiet jab at an industry that treats it like one.
The bet appears to be working. TrueCare now carries a 4.6-star rating from more than 5,000 verified buyers and sits on the shelves of Amazon, Flipkart, JioMart and Blinkit. And to disarm the one question every skeptic asks - can a single cream really do it all? - the founders simply offer your money back if you don't see visible results within 15 days. "We'd rather refund a doubter than oversell to one," says Pandey. "If it works, they stay for years."
For a generation quietly exhausted by being sold more to fix what more created, the pitch is almost radical in its simplicity: stop treating your face like a project; use one good thing, every day. Whether that changes how India shops for skincare is still an open question - but for the thousands now reaching for a single tube each morning, the mirror seems to be agreeing.
TrueCare Cream is available at careone.in and on leading marketplaces including Amazon, Flipkart, JioMart and Blinkit.
