Pranit More tells Supreme Court his PR Team uploaded the controversial Rs 370 biryani video without his approval

Comedian Pranit More sparked a massive controversy in June this year with a comment in his stand-up comedy video going viral. As the comedian continues to face legal charges for the same, he recently told the court that he is ready to undergo trial. On Monday, during a hearing for a plea filed by him, the comedian also told the court that the video was shared on YouTube by his PR team without his approval.

Pranit More seeks clubbing of FIRs

According to Bar and Bench, More had filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking the clubbing of FIRs lodged against him amid the ongoing row around the Rs 370 biryani' remark made during a show in Gurugram. During the hearing, the counsel, appearing for More, told the court that he has apologised on all forums, including the National Commission for Women.

His lawyer told the court, "I (More) have tendered public apology also before the NCW. Also, I was submitting a written apology. However, they did not take that. But I have apologised before all the forums." The court was also informed that More was willing to face trial and that he was only seeking that the two FIRs be clubbed. "I understand the gravity of the situation... I'm ready to face the trial," he submitted.

Further explaining More's position on the viral video, the lawyer stated that the comedian had deleted it as soon as he became aware of the seriousness of the controversy. He submitted, "Even before the FIR was registered, as soon as I got to know about the gravity of the situation, I deleted the video. I was travelling at that time, and the PR team that I have, they did not take my approval before publishing the video."

About the controversy

During one of his stand-up comedy shows, a man named Himanshu Jangra shared that he went on a date with a girl, during which he spent Rs 370 for biryani. He revealed he felt he deserved sexual intimacy in return for the money spent on the date.

More laughed at the joke, which did not sit well with many. The video of the same was also posted on the comedian's Instagram account, which soon went viral. Both More and Jangra faced backlash for the remarks, and consequently, FIRs were filed against them.
