Kalki Koechlin
Kalki Koechlin feels that there can never be a #MeToo like campaign led by female Bollywood actors, like in the West. In a BBC interview that went viral yesterday, the actor says B-Town women will not voice their ordeal "because their career is on the line." She further states that even if one was supposed to rise above all that is at stake and call out the names of the people who are at the forefront of asking for sexual favours in return for a job, "they would have to deal with hundreds of people throwing their opinions at you, it can shake you emotionally. It is a difficult step to take."
She adds, "No one listens to you when you're a nobody. If you're a celebrity and you talk about it, it only becomes a shocking headline." Koechlin, who has spoken about being sexually abused, said sexual harassment is so rampant and pervasive that women have become numb to it, especially in Bollywood.
