A Good Old Fashioned Orgy movie stillA Good Old Fashioned Orgy has nothing to entertain even die-hard raunchy comedy fans. Lacking a shred of humour, the film resorts to squeezing guffaws out of a plot that reeks of desperation. Co- writers and directors Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck dole out such boring, unfunny characters that they wear out their welcome just five minutes into the film.
Jason Sudeikis (from Horrible Bosses) plays Eric, a thirty-something man child who loves to use his rich dad's mansion for wild parties every weekend with his equally asinine friends. One day his dad (Don Johnson) opts to sell the house off, and Eric decides to have one last big party, a good old fashioned orgy with his closest friends. The motley crew consists of Mike (Tyler Labine), a typical fat slacker; Allison (Lake Bell), a tough psychiatrist who initially ridicules the idea but later joins in when she dumps her boyfriend; Sue (Michelle Borth), who secretly digs Eric; Laura (Lindsay Sloane), a meek friendly types who desperately wants to shed her inhibitions; Adam (Nick Kroll), a workaholic; wannabe rockstar Duquez (Martin Starr), and his girlfriend (Angela Sarafyan). There's also the genuinely funny Will Forte and Lucy Punch who are sadly relegated as side characters who are excluded from the party. Things get slightly dense when Eric falls for a real estate agent (Leslie Bibb) who suggests a dinner date on the same night as the orgy.
Much of A Good Old Fashioned Orgy is a cocktail of generic situations and cliched vulgarity. The humour is crass and juvenile and there is, of course, a gratuitous supply of sex jokes, none of which is the least bit funny or original. The only mild chuckles arise from the running gag that has Eric constantly hiding all the 'Home For Sale' signs in the backyard.
If anything, Gregory and Huyck deserve credit for putting the final nail in the coffin of Jason Sudeikis' movie career.
