Actor Imran Khan is set to approach the Bombay High Court on October 16, challenging an FRRO notice directing him to leave India by October 28. The actor has decided to contest the order, maintaining that he has not violated any conditions. The notice reportedly stems from his participation in the recent CJP protest at August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai.
Actor Imran Khan is set to move the Bombay High Court on October 16 to challenge a notice issued by the Mumbai office of the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO), directing him to leave India by October 28. Confirming the legal challenge, Khan's lawyers, Zulfiquar Memon, Parvez Memon and Chirag Naik of MZM Legal LLP, told Hindustan Times that they were preparing to approach the Bombay High Court on October 16 and seek an urgent hearing.
The legal team further said, "We are filing a plea and will be moving it for an urgent hearing. The basis of the plea is that our client Imran Khan has not violated any conditions of the FRRO Act. The notice by FRRO also doesn't explicitly mention the contravened provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025."
The actor was ordered to leave India over his allegedly unlawful participation in the recent August Kranti Maidan protests, which demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The FRRO stated in its order that the actor allegedly violated the Foreigners Act by participating in the protests, as he is not an Indian citizen and holds Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) status. Action has been taken against Imran under Sections 7 and 29 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, and the actor has received a copy of the notice. The actor was detained by the police on October 10 in connection with the protest.
Imran Khan was detained along with 400 others at August Kranti Maidan while participating in the CJP protest. His girlfriend, Lekha Washington, and cousin, Zayn Marie Khan, were also detained at August Kranti Maidan along with him. Both Lekha and Zayn shared constant updates from the police van on their social media handles.
