Akshay Kumar's upcoming film Oh My Goddess, the third instalment in the popular OMG franchise, appears to be facing fresh trouble. After Rani Mukerji reportedly exited the project following creative differences, the film has now hit another roadblock, with director Amit Rai also said to have parted ways with the makers. The latest development has raised questions about the film's future and whether the much-awaited project will undergo another major change before going on floors.

Amit Rai and producers reportedly disagree over film's direction

According to a report by Pinkvilla, Amit Rai and the producers have decided to part ways after an extended period of creative disagreements. The differences reportedly went beyond the screenplay, with casting decisions and the proposed release strategy also emerging as major points of contention. Despite several discussions and attempts to reach a common understanding, the two sides could not resolve their differences. The makers are now reportedly exploring fresh possibilities to bring the project back on track, potentially with a new director. Neither the director nor the production team has officially confirmed the reported development so far.

What happened to Rani Mukerji's association with the film?

The project had earlier attracted attention after reports suggested that Rani Mukerji would share screen space with Akshay Kumar. However, her association with the film did not materialise. While Variety India reported in March 2026 that Rani was involved only in early discussions and was never formally signed, Bollywood Hungama reported that creative differences with Amit Rai led to her exit. The conflicting reports have left questions surrounding the exact circumstances of her departure.

What is next for the OMG Franchise?

Amit Rai previously directed OMG 2, which featured Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam. The 2023 film explored a socially relevant subject through humour and drama, continuing the franchise's distinctive storytelling approach. The first instalment, OMG - Oh My God! (2012), also received considerable attention for its satirical take on faith and religious practices. With both the director and female lead reportedly no longer associated with Oh My Goddess, the makers face the challenge of finding a fresh creative direction. An official announcement regarding the film's revised plans is still awaited.
