Veteran actor Anil Kumar Rastogi received the Padma Shri award for his contribution to cinema on Tuesday, June 23. However, a video of him going to receive the honour from President Droupadi Murmu caught the eye of the netizens. Many pointed out that the veteran actor ignored Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Padma Awards 2026. The 83-year-old actor has now reacted to a viral video from the recent Padma Awards ceremony.

The clip has now gone viral, wherein Rastogi is seen walking towards the stage to receive his honour from President Droupadi Murmu. While he makes his way ahead, Prime Minister Modi extends his hand towards him. However, Rastogi seemingly passes by without noticing the PM's gesture. This has led to mixed reactions on social media.

After the video gained traction, several users speculated that it was a deliberate snub. However, the veteran actor has now broken his silence on the matter, stating that the incident was unintentional and happened because of his age.

Addressing the controversy, Rastogi wrote on X, "To those making fun of the incident, I would like to say that I am over 80 years old. It was an oversight caused by my age. I have great respect for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and believe that he is the best choice to lead the country."

Over the years, the veteran actor has featured in more than 75 films, including acclaimed titles such as Ishaqzaade, Mulk, Raid and Thappad. He has also appeared in 14 web series as well as nearly 500 episodes of television shows. Additionally, Anil has also been part of 99 plays and has delivered close to 1,000 stage performances during his long and celebrated career.
