Avantika Malik has opened up about her separation from actor Imran Khan, reflecting on their 18-year relationship and the factors that led to its end. In a conversation with Soha Ali Khan, she revealed that Imran initiated the separation, admitting she would never have taken that step herself. She also spoke about the emotional toll of their breakup and how their expectations affected the relationship.
In a chat with Soha Ali Khan on her YouTube channel, Avantika Malik opened up about her 18-year relationship with Imran. "At such a tender age, you don't even realise that it's your own responsibility. It's like, âOh, this person is in front of me and they are responsible for me being happy and content'. You don't realise that over the years, you end up kind of damaging the relationship because you have these unrealistic expectations from it," she said.
"For Imran and me, because we had been together for 18 years and from such a young age, and we both went through so much in our 20s and early 30s that, of course, somewhere along the way, I think we were unfair to each other and so I can't say it was one big incident (that led to divorce). I think small things over the years," she added.
However, she acknowledged that when the relationship had just ended, it was disheartening. "When we initially separated, it is the death of the way you perceived your life would be, what you imagined your life would be, how it would play out. It's probably the death of the most intimate relationship in your life at that point," she said.
During the conversation, when she was asked about who out of the two initiated the idea of separation, Avantika named Imran. She shared, "It was him actually. I would have never done it. Probably to my own detriment, but I would have never done it. It was his decision."
For the unaware, Imran Khan was recently in news after he was directed by the FRRO to leave India by October 28 after he allegedly unlawfully participated in the recent August Kranti Maidan protests, held to demand the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He joined the protest in Mumbai with Zayn Marie and Lekha Washington.
In the order issued by the FRRO, Imran Khan was accused of violating the Foreigners Act by participating in the protest, as he is not a citizen but has an Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI).
